Protein is Necessary for Everyday Life
Protein is one of the three macronutrients that we need to survive. It’s an essential part of our diet and one that many people don’t get enough of. Protein is often associated with working out and building muscle (and it is necessary for that), but it is also found in your bone, skin, hair, and pretty much every other tissue in the body. It has many different duties, such as helping your body repair from injury and powering the hemoglobin that carries oxygen in your blood.
Some benefits from an adequate protein intake in your diet are:
- Keeping your bones strong and healthy.
- Regulating your hormones.
- Boosting your metabolism.
- Boosting your immune system.
- Helping maintain weight loss.
- Maintaining and/or increasing muscle mass.
- Helping your body repair itself.
- Reducing soreness after working out.
- Helping you stay fit and strong as you age.
Absolutely No Fillers and It’s Grass-Fed!
The Simple Life Grass Fed Whey Protein has a wonderfully clean ingredient list and is sourced from grass-fed cows. The Simple Life preaches keeping things simple, and this protein powder supplement lives up to the standard. It boasts:
- Whey concentrate
- Whey isolate
- Organic cocoa powder
- Natural vanilla flavor
- Organic chocolate flavor
- Stevia (herb – natural sweetener)
- Two stabilizers (xanthan gum and sunflower lecithin – both natural products)
That’s it! Compared to many industry-standard proteins, this ingredient list is natural, simple, straightforward, and readable!
It is gluten free and hormone free, and has no artificial colors, artificial flavors, wheat, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, or fish.
Grass-fed means that the cows get to eat what they were designed to eat – grass! Happy and healthy cows equal, happy and healthy food, and nutrition for us. Commercial cows raised primarily on corn, grain, and soy tend to get sick from such an unnatural and unvaried diet. The commercial farms then introduce large amounts of antibiotics to help treat the ill cows.
Whey Concentrate vs. Whey Isolate
The Simple Life Grass Fed Whey Protein can fill many roles. It’s great for:
- Upping your protein intake during the day.
- Adding to a well-balanced morning shake.
- Using as a post work out protein supplement.
- A before bed supplement to feed your brain and muscles for better sleep.
- Helping you hit those protein macros (enough protein can be hard to get!).
Whey concentrate is a slow digesting protein. That means that after you drink it, it will take longer to hit your system and nourish your body. This slow digesting protein is an excellent option for your morning shakes, as a meal replacement, or a healthy treat before bed.
Whey isolate goes through a slightly different process during the manufacturing, and as a result, has fewer carbs and less lactose. This means it is a very fast digesting protein and will nourish your body very quickly after you drink it. This is an excellent option for you if you need to quickly replenish your muscles after a workout. Replenishing those muscles will also reduce soreness after a workout.
The Simple Life Grass Fed Whey Protein has protein concentrate and protein isolate and is a great one-stop-shop for a protein supplement.
How Much Protein Do I Need?
Like general calorie intake, the amount of protein that you need greatly depends on how active you are during the day. A good place to start would be to make sure that you are eating some source of protein with every meal. Eating a good amount of protein with every meal will also fill you up and mean that you’ll have less room for all the things you shouldn’t be eating! With our busy schedules and limited time, this is often difficult, and introducing a daily protein supplement is a great idea.
According to the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Science, the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of protein is approximately 0.4 grams per one pound of body weight for adults. Keep in mind this is the absolute minimum amount of protein for someone who is not very active. If you move around a lot during your day, work out, have an active job, are trying to build muscle, or spend a lot of time doing physical recreation, you will need to up that intake.
Athletes and Seniors Need Even More Protein
There is evidence that athletes and seniors both need even more protein. Seniors should be getting closer to .75 grams of protein per pound, and athletes should be consuming 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight.
How Much is Too Much? Healthy Kidneys – No problem!
One question in the health world is if a large amount of protein is taxing for your kidneys to process. Luckily, if you have healthy kidneys, you don’t need to worry about overeating on protein! Actually, according to Healthline, “The two main risk factors for kidney failure are high blood pressure (hypertension) and diabetes. A higher protein intake benefits both….”
